I'm only going to list non-standard apps that don't come with a new Mac (the ones that do come with it are must-haves, but they are also DO-haves hehe).

Adium,Subetha Edit, CSSEdit, Transmit, Aquisition.

iLife
Microsoft Office (sorry!)
Keynote
Photoshop Elements
Superduper

if bundles don't count:
iPhoto
iTunes
Excel (sorry)
Word (sorry again)
Keynote

ASIDE from the iapps, ilife, and iwork.....delicous library, shapeshifter, candybar, VLC media player (used to play .avi's) limewire ( ) aaaaaaannnnd.....onyx (system maintenance utility)....this is a personal favorites kinda thing isn't it?

I'm excluding iLife stuff and Tiger stuff
5. Comic Life
4. Pages and Keynote (tie)
3. Photoshop Elements
2. Word and Final Cut Express (tie)
1. Adium

Honourable mentions: Quicktime Pro, Wallet (great not only for remembering serial #s/passwords, but also for making all sorts of lists and syncing them with my iPod) and Azureus

Adium is indeed fantastic, though it used to crash too much before. Now since i've downloaded the patch seems more stable! Just love it when the goose pops up and flaps its wings on a message...rock on!

.... etc

I second that!
A great little app. I have already done a small 5 page comic with photos from a charity presentation - finished it in 3 hours (from knowing nothing about the app) and had a result back in the function before it finished (to complement the more serious DVD that I assembled from slides & clips).

Also ...

2. Adium
3. Elements
4. Office
5. Motion

Mine

Hmm - now I have to go look up some of the ones you've mentioned and see what in the world they are. Adium has ducks, huh? I guess you can't go wrong, as long as it's rubber duckies. ;)

For Usefullness
1. iCal (I know, I know - leave me alone.)
2. Pages
3. AppleWorks (yes, still)

For Making Life a Little Easier
1. iSync (if we add back in the parts that were moved over to system prefs)
2. Snap-N-Drag
3. Impression

And for fun:
1. War Extreme 2005.
2. Folding@Home
3. FileMaker Pro

1) iTunes by far. Its just really that awesome
2) Adium. Its free. Its really cool looking, its ducks. What else could I want?
3) Mail. Unlike some people, I really like the new look of mail. I use it all the time
4) Safari. The best webbrowser. Now that its opensourced, its fantastic.
5) Photoshop. No explination needed.
6) Xcode. Great IDE.

Those are pretty obvious. Here are some of my other ones i like that are less obvious.

Colloquy. IRC Client.
Firefox. Good alternate browser.
SubEthaEdit. The best text and code editor.
Cyberduck. Free, good ftp client.
QuickTunes. I made it so why not a little free advertising.
Lanuchbar. Must have.

Perhaps he doesn't like Pages? Or at least not enough for it to be in his top 5. Those of us who do seem to be in a minority.

Besides - you didn't bundle iWork in your list.... ;)

My favorite will be:

1) iTunes
2) Adobe Photoshop
3) Safari
4) Mail
5) iChat (all of my friends use AIM)

Also Batler, its SO COOL. There is many more but this is about only top five :(

The apps I'd really be lost without: iTunes, Xcode/IB, InDesign, Photoshop, and World of Warcraft.

There are lots of other great apps I use every day such as TextWrangler, Safari, Unison, Cinema4DXL, After Effects, and Keynote. But there are decent alternatives available for those, if I had to.
