Top case repair questions?

I just recently came from the Apple store to get my computer fixed and I was told that I need to replace the top case because there is a shortage in my keyboard. The repair is close to 400 bucks And my question to you guys is should I just purchase a brand new macbook or should I just repair it and is there a cheaper way to repair my macbook besides Apple?

Rather than going direct to Apple you could also try one of the numerous third parties that repair Apple computers. There should be one near to your location.
