MBA 2016 gets heated on the top left side. And loud fan noise is audible. After that, the system slows, hangs and restarts automatically. This happens after every week or so of doing 3 hours web browsing daily. This is happening for the last 3-4 months. I always put it to sleep. There are 50-100 tabs opened at all times on both Chrome and Safari.

It is most likely due to the webpages you have loaded in the background in Chrome. Some websites utilize your computer's resources while you are on a webpage. So the usage you are doing is maxing out the cpu and ram causing your device to overheat. I suspect the cooling system is not enough and you are experiencing thermal throttling and the heat is from the cpu and the single fan cooling system. Run a test. Just use safari on the same amount of tabs and see if the same thing happens. Then run only chrome with the same tabs and see what happens. Then you can half the number of tabs in each browser and run one browser and see what happens. Then you can try both browsers with half the amount of tabs and see what happens.

In my experience Chrome is a resource hog and just using it with a lot of tabs is enough to slow down a computer. I would try to use safari only.

Most likely you are going to have to use less tabs and maybe only one browser at a time or stop using chrome if possible.

I don't think there is anything wrong with your air but you are pushing it to its limits with the multiple tabs.

Even if this didn't happen before it doesn't mean something is wrong with your hardware just that your hardware is no longer able to keep up with newer websites. At least not with as many tabs in multiple browsers.

Just my 2 cents.
