When I am on a white screen, such as reading a text based article or in iBooks that the top of the screen is darker than the rest.

It isn't a HUGE difference but it looks like a shadow over the top 1.5 inches of the screen that isn't terribly dark but very noticeable when you are looking for it.

Has anyone else seen a problem like this, is it common in LCDs and would you return it for a new one?

The big selling point was the amazing displace and if I can notice this flaw then it doesn't seem so wonderful compared to the perfectly white screen on my 2 year old 3G...
