iOS 15 and macOS Monterey Public Betas Now Available

Apple has released public beta versions of iOS and iPadOS 15, macOS Monterey, watchOS 8, and tvOS 15, giving all users the option to test out Apple's upcoming operating system updates.

Apple had said at WWDC that the public betas would launch in July, but all of them except macOS Monterey arrived just a bit early on June 30. A word of warning though: Don't install these betas on a primary device, or at least make sure to have a backup, as there can be significant bugs and usability issues.

Latest iPhone 13 Dummies Again Show New Diagonal Dual-Lens Camera Arrangement Coming to Standard Model

It's a rite of passage as we get closer to the introduction of new iPhone models: We've moved beyond the leaks and design drawings to full-fledged dummy units that show off what we expect to see from the iPhone 13.

Apple is currently preparing to ramp up production of the upcoming iPhone models, lining up suppliers to start delivering components in mass quantities.

DigiTimes: Apple to Announce Redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro in September

Many Apple fans were disappointed at the lack of an announcement about redesigned MacBook Pro models at WWDC last month, but we won't have too much longer to wait if a new report is accurate.

Taiwanese site DigiTimes says the new models will be announced in September, although October might be more likely as Apple prefers to separate its iPhone and Mac announcements and the new iPhones are expected to return to their normal September launch timing.

Kuo: AirPods Pro 2 to Launch Next Year, AirPods Shipments to Exceed 100 Million

We've been hearing rumors about updated AirPods models for some time, and the most recent claims are continuing to hint at timing for these releases.

Noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says second-generation AirPods Pro are expected to launch next year, with previous reports suggesting they will arrive in the first half of the year. Another recent rumor says unspecified AirPods should launch later this year, which lines up with what we've been hearing for the third generation of the regular AirPods.

Since the launch of MagSafe alongside the iPhone 12 last year, some health experts have been warning about the potential risks of bringing products containing magnets close to pacemakers and other medical devices.

Apple has been working on sensors for metrics like blood glucose, but a new report says the Series 7 will prioritize battery life improvements rather than trying to pack more sensors into the watch.

I’m not sure if I buy the current MacBook Pro 13 that is on sale. or just wait for redesign.. I have a base MacBook Air from 2014 and it’s getting really slow.. I just hate the fact that the current MacBook only has usb-c ports.. I don’t want to buy a set of cables an dongles.

Dang, I was thinking the same thing' when I read this article. After a few decades of being a mac-aholic, I've become somewhat jaded. Even so, the main reason I'm still wearing the armband has more to do with iOS and the Apple Watch. I'm now at an age where medical issues dominate my lifestyle. The evolving technology of the AppleWatch and medical-centric features is one of the few reasons I'm still on board.

My last two MacBook/MacBook Pro's were garbage. The butterfly keyboards, failed display, useless touch bar, and lack of real-world ports have me looking at a Windows option for my next purchase. Sure, I will miss the macOS, but that's okay.

I always look at the launch of the next Public Betas across multiple platforms as a interesting time of the year. It’s like getting a new baseline to what’s possible software wise with the anticipated hardware that much closer.

The Olympic bands and watch faces could be much better. Canada's watch face looks like the PADI diver flag. Maybe the white strip should be vertical or horizontal, like the flag, and the second hand could have a maple leaf in it. Maybe all three hands have a maple leaf and when they all align/overlap it plays the national anthem.

Tech hasn’t been evolving the way it was 5-10 years ago. Apple hasn’t given me a reason to update my almost 5 year old iPhone X, or my 2018 iPad Pro. Only reason I need to update my MacBook Pro is that it is so old I can’t update to the latest operating system, and now my notes aren’t compatible with iOS 15. Nice ti save money though!

Think most people understand that new products come out after a certain interval of time after the previous at some point in the future.

Before the WWDC rumors of the new Macbook Pro models, there was brief mention of a new Mac Mini with the new chip (M-1x, or M-2). Is that more like at the time new laptops are announced… or after. Just curious. Just bought an Mac Mini M-1, but I‘ll likely go ahead and upgrade when the new machines are announced.

That's why Apple is pushing planned obsolescence so hard now. Moore's Law is running out of steam, chips are unlikely to ever go sub-nanometer, monkeying around with the UI only makes things worse (and Apple keeps doing it anyway), and so getting people to buy new tech is only really going to happen by forcing the old tech to stop working well before the end of its actual useful lifespan.

BTW, every MacBook Pro 2012 and later can definitely run Mac OS 12. It's just not officially supported by Apple, and you have to defeat the planned obsolescence lockouts. Some earlier ones can run it too. Don't replace a good computer before the hardware wears out.

Technically, Apple stayed true to its July promise. Apple never said that it would be July in California, though.

For example, in Tokyo, the first public betas came out around 02:00 on the morning of July 1st, not on June 30th.

I've got the 2013 MacBook Air and it has zero performance issues, although I did replace the internal SSD with a larger one from OWC. Super, super easy to install! Runs like new.

I was just shocked to learn the RAM is not upgradeable in this machine. Still running stellar with 4GB, though.

What are you doing where you experience slowness? Could the SSD need replacing? Check OWC. Great prices and products.

I love tech too, have been running my own blog site about it for nearly 10 years. Now though it's finding solutions to problems that simply aren't there, presumably as they're hitting a bit of an ideas brick wall.

As soon as digital smart locks started appearing, you know companies are reaching. I can see a few use cases for AR, but not that many. Feels a lot like the 3DTV thing, another reach.

I'd like to see more home automation options, like alternatives to Hue, curtains/blinds etc.. Stuff that makes my home look lived in whilst I'm not here. Google routines are excellent but there's more that can be done I think.

I find myself agreeing with others in that tech is not moving forward significantly enough to justify upgrading as often. The M1 has been the exception. My 2016 SE has worked better for me in some respects than my wife's XS as it has fingerprint recognition! Still fast enough and capable of 4K video. I look at Windows 11 and Monterey and for the first time I haven't gone with the betas - same with iOS. Very suspicious of the tie up between Microsoft and Amazon within W11 and will steer clear of that. Then I wonder what the pricing of iPhone 13 will be as we approach stagflation not to mention availability in the first few months. A friend has just bought a 12 Pro rather then find himself having the long wait. It's time to approach these purchasing decisions with more thought.

Don't worry, I think it might just be tech slowing down a little, I've been feeling the same for a few years and pretty much stopped upgrading in 2016 as I didn't see the point of the new tech.

After not upgrading for five years I was incredibly happy with my 12 mini, and am really looking forward to the pro level MacBooks becoming available in the coming months. I might make my first MacBook pre-order since 2006...

I have not been a fan of the thinner/better camera upgrades. I would like all ports needed in a case thick enough to contain them. My 2012 r MBP is still chugging along and hopefully be replaced by a new Mx MBP. I upgraded my iPhone 6 to and 11 only because the new apple watch would not work with it. Since I have retired the need for the latest and greatest has diminished. I find I have no real use for MS Office at home. Haven't created a spreadsheet in over a year.

I mostly use my MacBook Air to browse the web, I usually have several browser tabs opened in order to analyse stocks. And this is where the problem begins, more then 10 tabs destroys the OS, I think that the problem is the 4gb of memory
