iPhone 17 Torn between the base 17 and the 17 Pro Max

So I’ll be upgrading from a 14 Pro Max but I’m really torn between the 17 and 17 pro max. Normally I always go for the most high end iPhone but this year I feel like the regular 17 is such a good deal and offers everything I want and need. At the same time I love the extra battery life of the 17 pro max. Screen size isn’t too much of a big deal although I usually go for bigger models.

I have the 17 pro max on Pre-preorder but do you guys feel like it’s worth the extra $400 over the base Pro?

I'm going with the base model this year, coming from a 13PM. (And to be honest, I wouldn't be upgrading had I not switched carriers and gotten a "free" phone with trade-in.)

I have wrist and thumb pain from stretching across such a huge screen in addition to holding it up for long periods of time.

The battery on the base model will probably be equivalent, if not a little better, than your 14PM now.

Save the money.

Yea man. Them adding ProMotion to the base iPhone is a big deal to me and $400 is a big difference. I’m also excited to finally ditch that lightning cable crap

Same! Would've gone Pro if it didn't have ProMotion, but even the smaller Pro is still heavy. Looking forward to a super lightweight, smaller, and powerful device.

Just some advice: if you're the type who always goes for the highest end iPhone, you're buying for a particular psychological reason in addition to functionality. A lot of people do that, but just know that you'll probably be itching for the Pro Max eventually if you get the regular 17.

Very true! And lately I’ve been keeping my iPhones for at least 2 years so it also makes sense to go for the high end model. But this year they absolutely nailed the base model. When they announced it in my head I was like well what else can they do to the pro max to make it better cause this has everything lol

I have tremor so always opt for the biggest finger targets available. $400 is a lot but I generally keep it for 4 years so at $2/week it’s reasonable.

You might regret getting the base model purely based on perceived value. If you're one that goes big or goes home, then do that again and get the Pro Max!

I did one year when went to regular pro from a max. I went back to max, I missed the bigger screen.
