Okay so this was the most bizarre thing that has ever happened to me in my years using OSX.

Im running my 17" uMBP on Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.8, all up to date, up to speed etc...
i launch Filezilla to send some music files to my friends FTP server..the folder is residing on my desktop in folder called "Music Vol 2" i click and drag it into Filezilla...and wihtin 2 minutes of that...my entire desktop icons changed to Default size, all desktop folders were vacant and vanished...i did a spotlight search and Nadda, nothing came up.

my sidebar preferences inf inder all out of whack..like the desktop did a complete disappearing act...
no Kernel panic or any sort of notification, did a restart...nothing..all gone...

so is this a desktop crash? anyway to find out what in the hell just happened here?

im currently on a spare machine, waiting for my time machine back up to restore my desktop...or is there a better method to do this?

i just went and launched Time machine > clicked on my username in the left sidebar of finder > clicked on Desktop and clicked restore.
then a message came up saying Mac OS X requires "desktop" do oyu want to keep both, keep original or Restore and selected Restore.

is that the proper way to do this?

any other info that might help me get to the bottom of this..kind of really spooking me out.

thank you!
