Feral today announced the availability on the Mac App Store of Total War: Warhammer II, the sequel to Creative Assembly's multi award-winning Total War: Warhammer.

The game combines a turn-based open war campaign and intense real-time tactical battles, and allows players to choose from four iconic races from the world of Warhammer Fantasy Battles. It comes loaded with several DLC packs, including the Mortal Empires campaign, seven more playable Legendary Lords, and an extensively customizable battle mode called The Laboratory.

Note that the Mortal Empires campaign challenges players to conquer both the Old World of Warhammer I and the New World of Warhammer II, and requires the Mac App Store versions of both games. Further DLC packs are available as in-app purchases.

The game is officially supported on the following Macs
  • All 13-inch MacBook Pros released since 2016
  • All 15" MacBook Pros released since Late 2013 with a 2.3GHz processor or better
  • All 21.5" iMacs released since Late 2017
  • All 27" iMacs released since Late 2013 with a 2GB graphics card or better
  • Late 2012 models with a 2GB Nvidia 680MX graphics card are also supported
  • All 27" iMac Pros released since Late 2017
  • All Mac Pros released since Late 2013
Minimimum system requirements include 2GHz processor, 8GB RAM, 1.5GB of Graphics memory, macOS 10.14 or later and at least 52GB of disk space. Total War: Warhammer II is priced at $44.99 and is available on the Mac App Store from today.

Great addition to the Total War Franchise, but if you plan on buying this, Steam offers both windows and Mac as a bundled deal (buy one and have both systems) - plus you can normally get it on sale if you keep an eye out.

I wonder are those the same games and will they have the same release patches?

I wonder why they don't support it on my Mac Pro 5,1 (pre 2013) ?

It easily meets the listed minimum requirements.

Guess my new 16" MBP is out of luck ;)

That looks graphically intense.

Shame there isn't a GPU from 'last year' (eg. 5700XT) on an iMac so we can run it better?

And what's this? A game on the Mac App store? I thought the Mac didn't have any games?

Azrael.

Yes they are. Steam is the number one game distribution platform in the world. I rarely buy a game on any other platform, pc or mac.

this game was on steam and playable on Mac for quite a while now. Do certain demographics not like steam.

That game is 3 years old...woo hoo
still one of the most played games on steam though and probably still more graphically intensive than many games released today

I see.

Well. The good news about AS Macs is the 2nd class technology treatment will stop...with generic middleware like Open GL or generic hardware. The immediate move to AS means millions of apps and games will come over. That gives the Mac access to far more software than it could have realised before. And that means way more competition and choice.

And if they want to 'play' in Apple Arcade or the App Store...they'll have to 'up' their game.

We just need a graphically intense gpu in a new released iMac.

*Still waiting.

Azrael.

All strategy games should let you play as lizardmen.

I’ve been playing Imperator: Rome recently and I can’t help wishing I could replace one of the real world counties with the lizardmen.

There is no guarantee. Some ported games lack cross-platform multiplayer (especially with Steam) if you buy them in the Mac App Store. I would be careful with Feral Interace and Aspyr for that reason alone. Steam is almost always the better choice, in terms of pricing and features, given that it is most often the platform/web shop of choice for PC game developers, not to mention that you get versions for other platforms (Windows and/or Linux) alongside too.

Ahh the days you would walk into egghead software store or Babbage store and get your PC software. When I walk into a Gamestop and look at the tiny PC software section and it brings back memories of days gone bye.

What does that mean, "walk into store"? Is that some virtual reality thing?

In these uncertain times, I would never, EVER, buy a Mac game from a source that did not guarantee access to a Windows version as well. Wait for it to go on sale, buy it on Steam. You'll be happier in the end. Also, you could have bought it a long time ago.

Cool. This was $20 two weeks ago on Steam, and $12 in April. Which you will want to save on because there is $85 worth of DLC.

Love the lower Windows specs:
  • OS: Windows 7 64Bit
  • Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo 3.0Ghz
  • Memory: 5 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 460 1GB | AMD Radeon HD 5770 1GB | Intel HD4000
