I'd like to use my iPod Touch 4g in my car as its car-stereo has options for external audio. The car-stereo manual lists the following pins on its special connector which I believe I can buy through eBay:
- CDC data in
- CDC data out
- permanent +12V
- switch +12v
- GND
- line in L
- line in R
For audio from the iPod I can probably just attach a 3.5mm headphone jack and connect it to the car-stereo's "line in L" and "line in R" pins, but using the dock connector would likely be better as that would mean a line level signal (unaffected by the iPod volume adjustment), right?
According to this iPod dock pinout diagram I found pin 3 (line out R), pin 4 (line out L) and pin 1 or 2 (GND) to be the ones to use for that, but how about charging? I could use a cigarette-lighter type charger (which I already have), but that's impractical as I use that for a GPS, so is there any way I could use the car-stereo's +12V/GND connectors to charge the iPod through its dock connector instead?
