I just received a new 4g Touch and when I plugged it into the computer for the first time it had the itunes and usb cable on the screen. I attempted to jailbreak it with limera1n and I received the success message. But it's still in recovery mode. I'm not sure if its bricked or not. Can anyone help?

It has nothing to do with the version. All new iPod touches need to be synced to iTunes before you can do anything with it.

Not exactly related, but does anyone care to enlighten me on what jailbreaking does for a new iPod?

I know that you can only jailbreak 4.2.1 tethered. Is there any instruction on this? And when an untethered jailbreak becomes available can you update to that?
