Download the TouchBar Server and you have to be on the Last Build of macOS Sierra.
 
this misses the point though. The touchbar on the MBP will be close to the keyboard, and not have a screen that requires looking up at. Also he complains that you need to know what the icons do....of course. Not knowing this off the bat does not make it a 'gimmick'
