Love Touch ID on the iPhone, but I use the iPad differently: always at home, partner and kids also use it, and enjoy the convenience of opening the cover and having the screen unlocked.
My ideal scenario would be no pass lock / Touch ID to unlock the screen, but still being able to use Touch ID for App Store purchases.
Fiddled a bit with the settings and couldn't find a way to do it, when Touch ID is enabled, the screen has to be password or Touch ID locked.
Anyone knows a way around it, or is this the only way it works? Thanks in advance

I am not sure you can do that

Can't be done. It's all or nothing. I wanted to use my 5S in the same manner and realized it can't be done. I was never a fan of pass codes for my phones, but the improved Touch ID on the iPhone 6 allows me to use one and not have it feel like a pain. I'm hoping my iPad Air 2 Touch ID works in the same fashion.

On the 5s and now the 6 it's brilliant and I have it on at all times, but again on the iPad, because it doesn't leave the house and with the Smart Cover it unlocks automatically, I guess I'll just leave it off...
Maybe iOS will allow it in the future...

You know I never thought about the smart cover unlock, and the Touch ID. Kinda defeats the purpose of the smart cover huh. LOL :).

Anyway, I'll need to keep mine locked because it contains all my text messages, work emails, etc.

I like using it to get apps instead of inputting my password
