I really wish I could buy one of those new TouchID Magic Keyboards that ship with the M1 iMac. I use my M1 MBP in clamshell mode most of the time, and I miss having TouchID. Why is Apple not just selling these? Even just the plain silver ones? Why does Apple get so weird about new peripherals? So frustrating. I’m not buying an M1 iMac just to get a TouchID keyboard for my M1 MBP…

maybe they just need production to ramp up first. then they will.

this is surprising since i thought they already sold the touchID keyboard alone.

It will come... just like the iMac Pro's space grey keyboard, mouse and trackpad eventually came... I am fairly certain that it's a supply/demand issue... and they eventually will increase production to sell the peripherals separately...

Apple has never sold a TouchID enabled keyboard separate from the M1 iMac... they didn't even make it before that... since they keyboards are compatible with any M1 system, they will come eventually.
