For those who don't have 100% Touch ID success rate try this:

If you unlock with both of your thumbs, make 2 fingerprints for each thumb. Make 1 print for the top of the thumb and another for the middle part. I noticed that a lot of my unsuccessful unlocks were due to trying to unlock the phone with the middle part of my thumb and not the tip of it. Having the 2 prints for each thumb eliminates that problem and you can position your finger without being 100% precise and still unlock your phone.

I only use one digit and accomplish the same 2 part thumb. This is adjusted at the begging of the recognition. In that same one digit it also unlocks w/ the top front part on mine so 3 parts in 1 digit, it's just a matter of getting proper training at the learning part.

This. I can unlock my phone with both thumbs nearly all the way down to the first knuckle. You just have to teach it properly when you first enroll your fingerprint.
