Ok here is the Setup we are driving from Minneapolis MN to Rapid City SD for a work thing. I am using an Alltel EVDO data card with a Cradlepoint PHS300 router in the van for the trip down. This gives me DSL like speeds for most of the trip.

Here is what is driving me so crazy! We all know that the ipod touch uses Skyhook to figure where your ipod is. It does this by checking the database of what wifi mac addresses and then placing you on the map. In my case my wifi router mac address is moving down the highway at 70 miles an hour. Somehow the skyhook service was able to figure out where were located even while driving sometimes withing a block or two?? How is that possible? At first I was thinking that my touch must have been finding a small sliver of another wifi signal but were on Hwy 169 in Shakopee and we were far enough from any building that I don't think it was possible that we were pulling any kind of wifi signal. Somehow Skyhook must be able to trace back the internet connection to what cell tower my data card was pulling? Does anyone have any knowledge of the skyhook technology?

Now that we are in Southern rural MN the map location feature of my ipod touch is not working.
