[vent]I just killed 8 yes 8 fluorescent bulbs, the expensive ones that last for ever and use wicked low amounts of electricity. The second i turned them on, flash of bright light and it was dead.[/vent]

not all in the same fixture. 4 of them were in the fixture and it works now with some tungsten bulbs. and the 4 other were in different places in my house. I was starting to get a bit freaked out.

But after the 8th time, they might start to get a bit suspicious...

depends could be the bulbs where all from the same batch and the batch was bad
It seems more likely that it is the fixtures or the capacitor in the fixtures are blowing the bulb by pumping to much juice though them

edit: after reading OP new post. Could be the wiring in the house is bad. Seem odd that they would fail like that because I have like 7 in the house here. Did have 2 100W ones outside until an hell storm broke them.

These are the weird moments -- consecutive improbabilties that conspire to convince us that we come from the future or that the entire universe has just slid off the horizon.

So, go ahead then -- you're liminal enough. Say Beetlejuice three times.

We all want to know what happens.

Problem with the starters? We get issues with ours sometimes. Prone to flickering and that.

A couple of months ago I came into work on Monday and was greeted with the blue screen of death. I got my computer replaced, but the replacement proceeded to crash in new and inventive ways all week. I got the nickname "Chris of Death" from it :D

The following Monday, another computer had also bluescreened. Over the next few weeks, several computers had their motherboards replaced: It turned out that there was a fault with the batch, but the problem didn't manifest until summer.

Hmm, apparently I wasn't supposed to tell you that; my mouse just leapt into my rubbish bin.

Those compact florescent lights (I'm assuming that's what you're referring to) are notoriously picky about voltages.

I've also seen them burst into smoke for no apparent reason.

weird.

edit: God hates me or something, I just blew out a tungsten bulb in the lamp by my bed. The strange thing is that I was thinking about how weird it would be if it went out.
