Okay this is a weird one. I sometimes use my phone lying in bed with it just sitting there on the mattress and tapping away. I noticed that the screen is really unresponsive unless I'm holding the device.
Try this: put your phone on a table and open up a webpage. Now, scroll and zoom. On mine, it's incredibly sluggish and just won't do it. Now try again, but this time gently touch the edge of the phone with your other hand. It's like the phone remembers how to move around.
