Touchbar audio control not working

Hi all,

I have noticed that the play/pause button is no longer working on my Touchbar. The bar reacts to me pressing, but doesn't stop/start playback. All other controls work (Volume slider, mute etc.) Just the play/pause. I have rebooted and customised the keyboard again. No change. Only noticed it since updating to 13.3.1(a).

Anyone have any thoughts or experienced the same issue?

I'd assume it's yet another Ventura bug that will get fixed quietly at some point in the future, tomorrow, next month or possibly never. That certainly seems to be Apple's approach with Ventura.

In what app?

Just tested on my M1 2020 13” MBP with macOS 13.3.1a. Play/pause on the touchbar works as intended in QuickLook in Finder, QuickTime, Apple Music, VLC, Spotify.

All apps. Apple Music, Youtube. I even customised the control strip to move the play/pause button in case it was a physical defect, but it isn't. Only Play/pause doesn't work regardless of position on the touchbar. All the other controls work

No other connected hardware e.g. headset that have play/pause-controls?

Any other software e.g. BetterTouchTool that can modify keys? Check settings, or maybee a bug.

Create a new user-account in macOS. If it works there you have confirmed there is some setting or third-party software bug in your ordinary user-account.

So i did a complete shutdown (usually just sleep the machine), waited a couple of minutes and restarted. Lo and behold, the button now works again hehe. (Should of done that in the first place instead of just a restart)...

Just an update: It stopped working again, just after I received a call on Whatsapp. As I run the desktop version on my Mac, I could take the call on my Mac. After the call, the play/paise button stopped working. Quitting Whatsapp and viola, the button worked again. So it seems Whatsapp is "holding on" to the audio controls?
