Is there a way to expand the the touch bar control strip from the keyboard through a short cut?

I just got my new MacBook Pro, so far still getting used to the touch bar. One small gripe I have is how it takes two taps to do what previously took one. First to expand the control trip, then hit the button that I'm looking for. Is there a way to assign a keyboard shortcut to expand it? Just if I was able to hit something like the fn key then go for the button I want would be a bit easier for me.

Thanks in advance

Not sure what you've already tried, but in the System Preferences > Keyboard you can select whether the fn key expands the control strip or shows the F1, F2, etc keys.

Ok found it! Simpler than I thought haha

Although I wish it was just clicking fn and not having to hold it down. But can't have everything
