Hi guys,

I have a 2015 iPad Pro 12.9 that is fully updated. The past month or two, the thing has been really glitchy. I have to press the app icons multiple times (like 6-10) for them to open. The screen sometimes just won’t scroll as well. And sometimes I have to hit the home button ten or more times for the screen to turn on. Same thing with Facetime, I have to hit the button multiple times for it to connect.
I have done the whole reset thing with the home and power buttons. I’ve updated...is this thing just on it’s way out? It happens frequently, so it’s not just here or there. Also, not using any form of screen protector.
Thanks for any insight!

It could be slowing down as the battery ages. I think that buying a new iPad might be a good idea.

The battery probably has nothing to do with it. Touch registers either way. It’s probably a touch sensor related issue in that the functionality is somehow fading. I see a similar behaviour with my iPad Pro from that generation. It’s a bit intermittent and the Pencil isn’t affected, only finger touch.

This sounds bizarre but sometimes touch problems could be caused by certain skin conditions (my father has the same issue), so you should verify first if you can use other touch devices without any problems.

With touch issues, the first thing Apple will ask you to do is to fully restore to factory settings and restore "as a new iPad".
At that point, before you install any other apps, you should check if the problem still exists.
If it does, then I am afraid it is caused by a hardware fault. Typically a fault with the digitizer unit.
This can be replaced, either by Apple or by third parties, but before you do so someone should make a full diagnosis to exclude other causes.
Good luck.

Thanks for the insight. I tried to reset the iPad back to factory settings tonight. Hopefully that will resolve my issue. I really don't want to have to invest in another iPad.

This odd thing happens occasionally on my iPad Pro 10.5 as well and then goes away. A few things I have learned:

- Clean the screen
- If the iPad is plugged in, the screen responsiveness seems less (when the issue is there). Unplugging it helps slightly
- It happens mostly if I have a lot of Safari tabs open. I have add blockers installed - I don’t know if that interferes with anything
- Delete all Safari cookies, history etc.
- Reboot the device

Usually this will take care of the issue, until it reappears 5-6 months later. Then rinse and repeat.

Mine does this especially when it is hot. Leaving it to cool down for a bit or even putting it in the fridge for a few minutes seems to temporarily fix it. (Not sure the fridge won’t cause condensation problems when it comes back out, though).

Had this on my 2017 Gen 2. I would be typing and it looked alien ish due half of it not registering touches.
Apple replaced it under warranty as a screen fault.

If you look further back there is a big thread on it but that’s more the Gen 2 I think

Of course a fridge is a bad idea for that exact stated purpose.

Have the same issue (same year ipad pro as yours)...a sorta fix is going into accessibility and turn on touch assist.

My 2015 12.9 Pro began to exhibit "touch disease" in its 3rd year. Very intermittent but then after about 7 months it became more frequent to the point of being annoying. Short after that, I traded it in before it became unusable.

I have the iPad Pro 11" 2018 Version and it has the touch issues

I will possibly be buying the new iPad Pro 11", but if I see any touch issues, the thing will be going right back.
