This might be a little hard to explain, but will be easier if you have an MBP to do this exercise.

My touchpad/trackpad, is fine, except for that when tapped in the lower left quadrant (where you normally click) it makes a click noise (from the pad itself)
tapping anywhere else yields no sound.

I pushed hard on the pad, and kinda pressured it in every which way, and every time I do, the clicking stops for about a minute or so.

What can I do? take it in? live with it?

Mine makes a clicking noise too. But i think its from the cover on the bottom of the macbook. It do not fit perfectly and makes a click when i press on the bottom left of the track pad.Its the first unibody type though. Same thing?

no I am not actually clicking in the button, I am tapping it and it clicks. The button is not depressing as if to click it.

I seem to keep fixing it temporarily by pushing down hard on the whole pad and gyrating it around. Hasn't clicked for 30 mins now.

Same problem

My aluminum unibody Macbook Pro has been doing the same thing sine about a month after I got it. it makes a slight clicking sound only when I tap it in the bottom left corner. It doesn't sound like much but it's gotten so irritating I've resorted to punching it once or twice  I've also wiped it down with an electronic dusting cleaner thinking it just needed a little lubrication, and that's helped temporarily but nothing has ever fixed it permanently. Is there a fix? I can't imagine having to live with this!

Mine does the same...pushing it down very hard stops the click sound for a while. Opened the bottom case but found nothing....being alone in a room this sound gets on my nerves :(

well that is not the problem we described...

the trackpad makes a clicking sound when tapped on the left side...i am not pushing it down, just tapping and there is a strange clicking sound. seems like the trackpad is hitting something.

Or maybe there are two layers in the trackpad and the glass one is not sitting tight onto the bottom layer anymore.

Problem solved??

Has anyone found the solution of this problem yet? I got the same problem in my MBP, went to apple store and showed the problem to apple people. They took my computer inside and came back after 10 minutes and said, 'we found the problem and fixed it. It was some junk inside the trackpad and we cleaned. now it's fine.' I believed them and came home. The problem is same. I wish the apple store was little quiet and could make them hear the clicking sound.

I think you can open up the computer and tight two screws that change how far you press the trackpad to click. Try messing with those.

I know exactly what you mean - I had this problem years ago on my 2008 Unibody MacBook. I took it into the local Genius Bar but it was noisy in the store so the guy didn't seem to understand what I was talking about.

I ended up selling the MacBook because it was driving me crazy, but if I was you I'd try and perservere with the Genius Bar route.
