Can anyone recommend any decent tower defense games for osx?

Have played Plants vs. Zombies and am aware of Jelly Defense (any good?).

geoDefense and geoDefense Swarm are the best tower defense games I've played.

If you require actual towers in your game (and not abstract shapes) then consider TowerMadness.
 
I love the genre, and the best I've ever played is Defense Grid. I think it's available on OSX now? It's definitely out on Steam for Windows.

Wasted so much time in that game and the production values are very high.

Is PvZ even a tower defence game? It's massively simplified and there is never any real challenge. IMO it's something else entirely.
 
I find Hordes of Orcs to be somewhat amusing. Got it for two bucks on the MAS, but I think that was a sale price.

I agree, I love those two games. However, they are only for iOS and the OP was looking for games on OS X. I wish the dev would port them to OS X though.

Looks like defense grid is available for OSX, will have a look, looks good though.

Not sure how else PvZ could be described, yes it's a doddle, but it is def a tower defense game!

Am aware of GeoDefense, I have it on my iphone, but it is iOS only. There's a freebie game called tapdefense for iOS if you want something with a challenge (early levels are a doddle, then it ramps up).

Hordes of Orcs, I have just realised I do in fact own but have not really played, I thought the graphics were pretty lame, but may give it another go (don't judge a book by its cover etc.). Thanks for tips folks, is jelly defense worth a download, any other recs?

Tower defence games are based around "area of awareness". In PvZ it's a "line of awareness". It's either a heavily distilled TD game or something new, it's definitely not as clear cut as Crystal Chronicles (iOS and PSP, great game too) or Defense Grid.

Is Fieldrunners available on OSX? I had a lot of fun with that on the PSP and iPad versions!
 
You should try Unstoppable Gorg, it's available both through the Mac App Store and Steam.
 
OS X version of Dungeon Defenders is being developed. I think it will be released on 15th March.
 
I made a list of some of the best tower defense games that are on the Mac App Store at the moment, which might be of interest. :)

There are others on Steam (maybe coming to MAS in the future?), now including Dungeon Defenders and Fieldrunners. One that hasn't been mentioned, but definitely deserves a look, is Revenge of the Titans.
