I have a 2017 RAV4 Limited - love the car with the exception of the horrific Toyota Infotainment Entune suite. If Auto manufacturer's applied their infotainment approach to engines it would look like: "It's a great 8 cylinder today! In 3 years it will be a 6, 6 years it will be a 4 and in 9 years a single cylinder car". I would love to see:

1) OEM updates to existing legacy infotainment systems that supported CarPlay 2 and Android Auto. Currently if your Limited Birdseye view infotainment dies it costs $5K from Toyota to get a replacement unit that brings you back to 2017. If they offered a unit at $2,000 there would be some buyers - but Toyota could get economies of scale if they upgraded used vehicles being sold at Toyota dealerships to the new infotainment system.

2) CarPlay Lite. Reduced feature set but could run on older Toyota and other cars that don't support full car play.

3) Chip upgradeable OEM Infotainment systems. If auto manufacturers can't start caring about their customers then there should be regulations that every 4 years they have to issue a chip upgrade that supports the latest CarPlay, Android Auto or any other technology with over 10 million users. You wouldn't get latest screen technology but you would get improved safety and user experience.

4) Aftermarket unit (Crutchfield, Pioneer) that supports birdseye view and CarPlay ultra for under $1,500.
