iPad Track iPad via MAC or iTunes?

Hi

I lost my iPad 3 3G at an airport. I have reported it to lost and found etc but no luck.
I had FindMyiPad installed but it does not show up.
I am thinking that someone has found it and wiped it by now.

My question is if it has been wiped and it doesn't have a sim card in it then it will be hard to trace by me.

1. If the person who has it uses it with their iTunes account can it be tracked that way?

2. Or MAC address when it goes back online?

Ok, from what i've just read the MAC address question is out. The MAC address will not get passed a router. So if the device is used as wifi only then it cannot be found via MAC address.
Still interested to know if someone else uses the device under their iTunes account. Anyway to see who is using it then? Thanks
