Track pad issues Mid 2009

Hi, I have been having intermittent issues with my track pad on my Mid 2009 17" mac book pro. Every once in a wile the track pad will lock up and not track but it will still click fine. Sometimes it takes multiple reboots to solve the problem and I have booted up from an external drive with SL on it and had the same issue. I do have Apple Care. Anyone else ever have an issue like this and if so what was the solution.
