So I have an old 2012 MBP that was giving me issues with the trackpad not clicking anymore. I immediately assumed that it was a bad trackpad. Well that was not the case.
I opened it up and realized that the battery had "bloated" and was putting a lot of pressure on the trackpad causing it not to click. Since the battery was over 6 years old I decided to eBay a replacement for $30.
The new battery only took a few minutes to install and it solved the trackpad issue. So if you think you have a bad trackpad, check your battery first...:)
