I have an Intel Macbook Air (2020).

Since I've had it, every now and again, maybe every few months, the feedback from the trackpad to simulate a click (haptic feedback?) would suddenly become very weak. This could be fixed by rebooting, whereupon it would return to normal.

However now it has gone weak and rebooting has not fixed it. In settings, silent clicking is not enabled and makes no difference anyway whether selected or not (it never has).

Although there is some feedback, in many cases it's so hard to feel, that it's making using the laptop really awkward.

I've tried some suggestions on Google, including reseting the PRAM and SMC (or whatever it was) and deleting the systems preferences file but it has made no difference. Where do I go from here? If this needs to go into Apple I'm bracing myself for a large bill. I'm happy to open it up as it's out of warranty, but my understanding is there's nothing mechanical to adjust.

Check if the housing bulges upwards at the keyboard, then close the lid and check if the bottom boulges outwards or if it no longer closes properly. Usually the described issue is due to the battery being shot and swelling. If you can't see anything, you can wait a couple weeks and it will at some point become very noticeable.

I can't see any obvious signs of bulging. Battery info below in case it's useful?

Also check for any trapped dust or whatever under bottom front edge especially in middle, run edge of a bit of paper back and forth there under the edge or something, I had mine go weird for a while till I cleaned it out.
