Trackpad Question

I own a 2010 13inch MacBook Pro

The top 1/4 inch (near keyboard) of my trackpad I am unable to click it down. Is this normal?

Same on my late 2011 model and I also tried display models of various sized Pros and Airs. They all seem to be the same from what I have experienced. I think even the trackpad sold with desktops is the same.

So not quite the click anywhere that I had been led to believe I guess but no big deal.

That's where the hinge for the trackpad is, so it would be difficult to click there.
