I have one day left on my exchange and I
just noticed an odd discoloration on the trackpad.
It looks like a stain right in the middle of the pad.
You do not notice it direct light- but if you tilt the machine it's clearly there.

It almost like a worn spot that might appear on the trackpad after years of use- but this thing is only a week and half old.
Could Mac be using refurb parts?

Is this worth the hassle of an exchange?

No - you're obsessing. Especially if its not even noticeable under normal light.

Yes, return it. See my thread here. It is a cosmetic defect.

Mine had a "cross" type stain in the middle and some other thing on the right of the trackpad, only if you tilt it. We tried cleaning it at the Apple store. You paid over 1k for a brand new machine, it should look perfect.

Dammit another thing to look for on my Air. I swear posts like this always give me a bit of anxiety. I guess they're better left unread. ;)

Hey - I'm all for people doing what they want, but I'm now completely convinced that Apple attracts every OCD computer user in the world.

That is so not true, and I completely

<stops typing to make sure that the backlighting on his 't' key is not dimmer than the others on his keyboard>
<pulls out digital camera, takes picture, analyzes>
<finds light sensor in drawer, takes reading>

resent that accusation.

Yeah- I'm nuts about these type of things sometimes.
A small part of my reason for wanting a perfect machine in every way- is the resale value.
I usually upgrade every few years and sell my old models.
You would be surprised at how closely some used buyers look over a machine. I've had some walk away because of minor defects.

That said- Everything else is fine so- I'm just going to ride with this one in fear of exchanging for a clean trackpad- but ending up with a stuck key.

Hah - great post - thanks for the laugh!
