The trackpad on this late 2013 A1398 MacBook Pro Retina was starting to not click, pointing was still fine. I read about replacing it, and was trying to decide if I should replace the battery at the same time. It still checked "good" however, so I was undecided - until I removed the back cover. Forget the battery application, the battery had the end of life swelling due to out gassing. I poked small holes in each cell, put the cover back on and went to order a battery and trackpad, but now the trackpad worked fine! The battery swelling put pressure on the trackpad causing it to fail to click. I replaced the battery only!
