Trade in Apple Watch with payments remaining

I have an AW6 that I purchased about 6 months ago using Apple Card payments. So I still have about 18 payments due. Do I have to pay them off before using the watch as a trade in towards a series 7 or is it done automatically when I order the new Watch if I don’t want to keep the older one?

You owe the balance regardless of what you do with watch. You could sell it now because your watch has nothing to do with that Apple Card balance now.
