Trade-in programs?

Hey all, I'm looking to pre-order tonight, and was curious if it's possible for me to take advantage of these trade-in programs. AT&T (my provider) is offering me around $300 for my iPhone 5, which is great, but I'm afraid they'll just give me credit that I won't be able to use, since the deal doesn't start until later next week.

Am I misunderstanding something here, or is that how it works? Any details about the other programs? I know AT&T's been pretty sparse on details. If this doesn't work out, I'll try selling my phone on Glyde later this month.

That's not a bad deal, but I'd much rather it be in cash. I don't make enough purchases through Amazon to make $200+ worth it.
