Just bought an iPod Gen 5 for my daughter on 6/8, guessing they weren't going to update the Touch (and also because her birthday was the following day). I'm out of the 30 day window for any sort of return. I'm guessing if I want to get the latest Touch for her I'm going to have to sell her current one (probably at a very steep loss). Any other ideas? Apple doesn't give you anything for a trade-in, do they?

Thanks

Unless you're in a rush to buy the new one right away, you could always wait until Black Friday and all those other deals to find one with a free $25 or $50 gift card. The 5th generation is still supported by the upcoming iOS 9, so you could use that one for a year and wait until any deals throughout next year before iOS 10 is released.

Trading it in will not yield you that much money, so you would be better off selling it to someone in Craigslist or similar website.

Thanks. That's what I figured. My daughter doesn't really care (she's 9). It's really just me that's ticked I just bought one that's 6 times slower and has a much worse camera than the new one for the same price.

No problem! Did you see the post on July 1st about the image with the iPods from iTunes? If you had seen that, it might have warned you about it and possibly made you return it in time. But don't beat yourself up about it, nobody knows exactly what Apple will do. I'm sure you'll find a good sale in the future :)

You know, I think I did see that, though I guess by then it was still too late. I think it's 14 days, not 30. And prior to that I had figured if they didn't say anything at
WWDC that I was good to go ahead and get one. Oh well. She's happy. And we can maybe upgrade like you said in the future. Thanks again.

You're welcome! I blame Apple for not saying anything sooner :D
