I may have the opportunity to trade my Mac pro 1,1 for a 2010 MacBook pro 15". Here are the specs of both

My Mac pro:
X2 2.66ghz dual core xeons
640 gb hdd
6 gb of ram
Ati Radeon 5770 graphics card

MacBook pro:
2.5 ghz core i5 (I think)
4 gb of ram
500 gb hdd

Would this be a good trade for me?

To be honest I don't really utilize the power the Mac pro has to offer. In fact, ever since I got an iPad 2 I haven't used it much at all. One reason I considered trading is because I'm afraid the Mac pro will be too old to run any future os past lion.

Well, if you spend much of your time on your iPad, and occasionally use Mac for horsepower work, then trade first, sell that MacBook pro, and buy an iMac with that money. If I was in your shoes, I would do that.

A 27" iMac sounds very nice. I had originally posted an ad on Craigslist looking to trade the Mac pro for a newer iMac but I had this guy come to me with the mbp. The idea of trading and then selling for an iMac is a good one.

Yea, as long as there is someone willing to buy the MBP that you will own in the near future. Why not just post some ad on Craigslist, and see what people offer?
Good luck with your deal :)
