I currently have a mid-2012 Macbook Pro Retina 15" that I will be replacing with the just-released 2016 version.

The total price with education discount will be between $2,689 - $2,869 depending on whether I go with 256 GB (and later get AirPort) or 512 GB.

I already have an Apple Store gift card for around $300 but was hoping I could trade in my current computer as well to help cover the cost (the site quotes $489). However, the PowerON recycling program states that the gift card could take up to 3 weeks once the computer is received.

Would Apple be able to amend the receipt of new MBP to apply the trade-in gift card? Being computer-less for 3 weeks is unrealistic so I feel somewhat stuck. What options do I really have, if any?

Thanks for reading!
