I am trading my Unibody Alum Macbook base model with 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 160GB 5400rpm HDD. Nvidia GeForce 9400 wirh 256, 2GB of Ram for a iMac 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB 800MHz DDR2 Ram, 250GB 7200rpm HDD and $300 cash or I was just offered a 24" Alum iMac with 2.4 Core 2 Duo, 320GB 7200rpm,3GB of 800MHz RAM, and the newer Nvidia 256mb video card, BUT NO CASH. Which is a better deal? I am not hurting for cash as I am only in HS but I am looking to do graphic rendering.

its a pretty good deal. if u need more screen space do it. plus u can buy accessories for it(like a 1tb hdd )

Not really for the screen size but I dont really dont need a laptop till I enter college in a couple years and it is known that dsktops will always have more power than laptops and the extra cash would be nice right now

Yeah, and it's always fun lugging your iMac to Starbucks if you want to work away from home.

Edited orginal post I was just offered a 24" Alum iMac with 2.4 Core 2 Duo, 320GB 7200rpm,3GB of 800MHz RAM, and the newer Nvidia 256mb video card, BUT NO CASH which is better

I could imagine someone doing this. But yeah it sounds like a good trade. Better macbooks will be out by the time you go college and you need a desktop for the power. Trade it!

I don't believe the 2,0GHz iMac you first got offered for trade, was ever that much more expensive than your MacBook. So if I were you, I wouldn't trade it for the world if I had to pay $300 on top of the trade. The 2,4GHz iMac definitely looks like the better deal. But you would want to know in what shape it's in. See it before deciding to trade, I'd say.

...if you'd like the cash, get the 20" iMac...

If you really don't care about the cash, the 24" iMac seems to be a generation newer than the 20" iMac...

I think I'm going to decide to keep a previous gen 20" iMac 2.4 Ghz vs a current gen whitebook 2.0 Ghz and use my netbook for any portable needs...

Oh wait... you're actually getting that $300 cash? That explains a lot. I thought you had to pay it on top of the trade for that inferior iMac. Then it's a whole other story. This one, we can't decide for you. Of course the 2,4GHz iMac will be faster (especially with CPU-intensive applications and games), but $300 cash is also very nice.

Your call...

That is a weird, weird way of thinking. You'll decide between a desktop and a laptop, and you'll have your netbook for your portable needs? Then, by all means, keep the desktop. It'll still be faster than the MacBook, and it looks like you don't need another portable computer. Unless, of course, you want to clear up some space in your house. Having a laptop means you don't need a desk anymore. Nice!
