VERY new to Mac and cannot find what the hell the "train whistle blowing" means.

Could someone out there enlighten me please?

Thanks.

No Flatfoot. It happens at anytime I am either on a website, in mail or just messing around in docs. Sounds like "whoo whoo" Initially I thought it was mail arriving but it does not appear to be unless it's junk mail that I have block on?

Thanks for the reply anyway.

Then maybe it's your alert sound.

Go to Apple Menu->System Preferences->Sound->Sound Effects and check.

Thanks again flatfoot. It is mail. Your reply came in and so did the "Train":) but from your help it seems the only close one is the "hero" sound, twice.

Thanks again

If you want to use another sound for incoming mails, you can change it in Mail under Mail menu->Preferences.
