Trans-scribing a video

Sometimes I need to find juicy quotes in really dry speeches for news clips or documentaries. Sometimes my employer at the time wants to choose them but doesn't have access to a computer.

IS THERE A WAY to get the audio from a video track, trans-scribed into text?

There are tons of transcriptions services out there and many (most?) will take a QT file with a timecode window burn. I'd say average prices are around $100/hr for a single person speaking.

There is currently no speech recognition software that will accurately create a transcription for you.

Simplest method would be to burn a DVD of the footage with burned in time code (BITC). I use a stand-alone DVD recorder to do this so it doesn't tie up my Mac.

The client reviews the DVD at their convenience and then hands me their notes with the scenes they want to use.

If the clip(s) are relatively short, I sometimes export a BITC QuickTime movie and upload to an FTP site for them to download.
