Setup: iPhone 4 with ios 4.2.1, not jailbroken
Win7x64, iTunes 10.1.1.4, authorized computer, single iTunes account

What I did: purchased an app on iTunes and download to the iTunes library, it shows there.

What I want to do now: transfer the purchased app from iTunes to my connected iPhone.

What I've tried:

  • Click on my iPhone under Devices, select Apps, uncheck Sync Apps, click Sync (lower right corner)
That doesn't transfer the latest purchased app.
  • Same as above, but check Sync Apps, WHOA!
What iTunes thinks of my iPhone is quite different than the way my iPhone apps are actually arranged. If I went ahead with the Sync here, I guess it would transfer that single app, and would also destroy my careful arrangement of all the other apps.
  • Click on Apps under LIBRARY, try to drag-and-drop the latest purchased app to my iPhone under Devices, no-go.

I could just "purchase" the app again directly from the iPhone, it wouldn't charge me twice, but I am at work with a terrible wireless connection here. OK I am out of ideas and have already pulled some hair out. Surely I am overlooking something obvious but iTunes is a dodgy software for me, I can't figure it out.
