Transfer files from old Mac to new Mac

Hi all, I will buy a new Mac (iMac or MBP) soon to replace my current iMac G5. What is the quickest and easiest way to transfer files including my iTunes library & iPhone apps & safari bookmarks to the new Mac? Thanks for your advice in advance

OP - Not trying to thread jack here but I have a similar question as well.

Spin -

I recently used migration assistant to transfer some pics from my MBP to iMac via fire wire. Process took about 30 minutes or so... have close to 4,000 pics.

After all the pics had been transferred to my iMac, I disconnect fire wire
and the pics were gone as well. Did I not do this correctly?

I tried quite a few times and got the same result each time.
i just ended up copying and pasting the pic folder which did the trick.

thoughts?
