transfer files from pb to mb

ive searched the forums and have seen a few threads about this but i was wondering if anyone can give me step-by-step instructions on how to transfer files from a powerbook g4 (running the original that came with the comp in 2004) to the new macbook. i dont have wireless or an external hd so im hoping to do this via an ethernet cable. im not sure if i will need to download specific software or need anything besides a regular ethernet cable but if so, please let me know. i know this is a lot to ask, but any help would be awesome.

The title is for the MBA, but the procedure for network migration is going to be the same for your MB. Both computers will need to be on the same network, obviously.
