Transfer from 3G to 4S

Hi All,
after work today I am going to pick up my new iPhone 4S. Will I be able to do a 'restore from backup' from my old 3G phone to the new 4S? I will also be with a new carrier and would hate to lose all my contacts etc.
any tips/tricks/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

yes, just backup and sync your old phone, then sync the new phone.
