Hi all , newbie here ...

I've been to the Apple store 2 x now ... once for a firewire cable and second they set me up for a " Geek " appointment or whatever by bringing both in
to troubleshoot .

I have been trying to get my old files ( Banking , C/C info , Itunes and Photos ) off an older ( about 8 months ) Imac to a brand new Macbook Pro.
I have been told to use the firwire and Migration but looks like the Macbook does not recognize the Imac after I reset and hold the "T" . In my case the firewire icon never comes up on the Imac screen ( for the hell of it it does in reverse when I reset the Macbook ) . I've seen numerous questions with this type of heading and using Migration seems to take care of the issue , not in my case as the macbook responds with " your Imac may not be able to use the firewire for this situation " ????

Thanks , any responses are appreciated .

Thanks Batt... never used it before but any other ways of getting my files off the Imac

Thanks
