Transfer iPhone syncs MBP

Hey
I have an iP4 that is synced to my iMac. My iTunes library is on an external that is on its last leg. Clicking and everything.
I want to start syncing my iP4 to my MBP.
Is it as simple as hooking it up to the MBP and clinking sync?
I can't transfer anything from the iMac's external to the MBP. It just isn't going to happen. I can't get anything on or off of that stupid thing. I have a 6-months-old copy of my iTunes folder on my internal drive on the iMac, but I just want to start syncing to the newer, faster machine.
