transfer itunes setting to a new mac

Thanks to all of you I have been convinced to buy myself my first mac and I had a quick question regarding itunes settings and backups. I know it's a simple step to just save my music to an external drive and just drop it on my new mac but what about all the itunes settings, backups, playlists and all that other jazz that comes with itunes. Is there a way to backup the actual itunes app settings and import it on my new mac? If i plug my ipad or iphone into my new mac i am worried when it syncs i will lose alot of my settings and information off my devices. I hope that question made sense. Thanks in advance.
