Transfer photos from PC to MBA

New MBA user here, but have iPads and iPhones.
I was transferring my photos from my pC to the Mac BA. On my PC, they are filed in year order and then into separate albums. As nothing transferred with migration assistant, I copied all my photos, in each year/album to an external drive and then copied to my MBA. But noticed that whilst the majority came over, some albums or some photos within an album didn’t copy over. Anyone know why this could be? Thanks

I would use the Import function within Photos app.

Import photos from storage devices and DVDs using Photos on Mac

In Photos on your Mac, import photos and videos stored on hard disks, CDs, DVDs, flash drives, card readers, and SD cards.
