Hi there

OK, since buying my first iMac at the end of last year and posting on here i have been converted and had a big spend up

I have bought a Mac mini server, new iMac, MBP and 2 x MBA, ouch!

The server is a separate challenge all of its own, but thats another story in another section

The iMac i chose has a 256 flash drive which i planned to use for the OS then a 2TB drive for files and apps etc. I planned to transfer my old set up to the new system, which has a 2TB single hard drive. When i use the migration settings it obviously cannot fit not he 256 drive so fails.

I have tried several searches and tried moving users and apps to the other drive with out any success to the point for some reason i cannot log on to the machine, what an idiot:mad:

So i have re-installed the Lion OS and need some help converting some items to be used not he larger second drive

Any help welcome

As you are too! When you say flash drive I'm guessing you bought an SSD? Okay assuming that's right when you say you want to change files, do you mean reduce them in size so that they will fit on the SSD? Why would you want to do this when you have all that external storage (HDD'S available)...

sorry not explaining my self

As you say the smaller drive is SSD so is planned to be used for OS

Everything else on other drive

But when i try to migrate form my old iMAc it says insufficient space, how do i tell it to migrate to the larger drive?

But I don't think you can use that external SSD as a boot drive...Think about it, the OS grows, files are copied etc. It was only designed for that INSIDE an MBA....I could still be wrong though, let's see what others say!

The SSD is 256GB is the drive within the iMac which Lion is installed on

How do i get Apps and user data onto the larger drive is the question i think

----------

this is the spec of the iMac

3.4Ghz quad core intel core i7
16GB 1333Mhz DDR3 SDRAM - 4 x 4GB
2TB serial ATA drive + 256GB Solid state drive
AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB GDDR5

Don't know if this helps

You want your O\S and app's on to the internal 256Gb flash drive and your other data on the 2Tb external drive. Is that right?

Now you have loaded Lion use the transfer facility after you have configed the external 2Tb drive to hold the app's and data.

Hi Macman45. PCA man here.;-)
