Transfer video to Iphone

Hello
I am stymied. I have looked on the net, read many answers but none work for me.
MbP 2021 M1. Iphone 8 plus
some how I placed 1 video on my Iphone, don't even know how I did it. but now I can not figure out how to transfer
videos. all are mp4. I tried one method and the videos ended up in the photo's file..
there is no drag and drop.
I click on the Iphone icon in the side bar, click the "movie" button and then nothing, I drag a video, into the box which shows
the movie I did transfer, it turns green with a (+) sign but does not stay...
I don't want to use Icloud. I am using the usb connect..

Not sure if it works on newer Macs, but have you tried using the app called Image Capture?

It allows you to download photos and videos from your iPhone to your Mac in a traditional way that you are probably expecting.

Oh, and I agree it is obnoxious how Apple has taken away the ability to do a simple "move" from your iPhone to your Mac and/or from your Mac to your iPhone.
