Transfering Everything From Old Mac To New?

Hi, I'm considering upgrading my Macbook and I seem to remember there's a way to transfer everything (files, settings, programs?, etc) from one Mac to another. Is this correct or am I dreaming? If it does exist, what is it called so I can check up on it? Thanks.
