Transfering iTunes purchases to another account?

Growing up I had to use my mother's iTunes account to buy music for my iPod. now I'm old enough to have my own account, but I don't want to lose the songs I bought under her account. Is there any way to remedy this situation? or am I forced to buy them again?><
